The Prophet had a favorite cat called Mu'ezza and in a famous incident he showed charming kindness by not even disturbing the sleep of the cat.
On one occasion as he was preparing himself to leave his house and lead the prayer in the Grand Mosque, as he went to get his cloak he found that Mu'ezza was sleeping on one of the sleeves so instead of disturbing the cat, he cut the garment and left the sleeve. He went out to lead the prayer and upon returning Mu'ezza awoke and bowed to him and in return The Prophet stroked him.
